Very few people are blessed to serve in the Non-Profit field in Northwest Arkansas working to help clients who are “At-Risk” and “Distressed”. During my time with the American Red Cross in Tontitown, AR, 7hills Homeless Center in Fayetteville, AR, and Havenwood in Bentonville, AR, I have successfully written micro grants ranging from $100 – $10,000, larger program grants from Private Donors, HUD and Veterans Administration ranging from $35,000 – to $1 million dollars, and numerous business documents needed to provide data outcomes to investors and the Board of Directors.
One of my passions is working to end homelessness in Northwest Arkansas. Northwest Arkansas has more than 2400 homeless individuals on a given night who have no bed to call their own; 1254 of them are under the age of 18. Bentonville Public Schools has over 300 children who don’t know when their next meal is coming, especially during the summer. In Northwest Arkansas, 70% of our homeless are families with children, 25% are Veterans, and 5% are the “stereotypical” homeless, which is referred to as the Chronically Homeless.
The ability to write large dollar grants is a true trade. It must balance the statistical data needed to catch funders eye with the emotional tone needed to tug at the heart strings of those very same funders.
My ability to articulate the need, while allowing Executive Directors to provide the financial data, allows for a quick grant submission process without having to reveal the financial data of your organization to a contract employee.
